East Lyme Police are encouraging residents to make sure their vehicles are locked and secure after numerous car break-ins recently around the north end of town.
During the last several days, the East Lyme Police Department have responded to a larger than average number of motor vehicle break-in calls in the area defined in the attached map. The areas more specifically identified by street are Bobwhite Ln, Catbird Ln, Grouse Cir, Quail Crest Rd.

There is not any trend identified, however we're seeing that these crimes are happening over night into early morning hours and that these neighborhoods are all getting hit at the same time.
Items that have been stolen include iPods, cell phones, laptops, loose change and jewlery and anything that is expensive, small and easy to grab.
Besides locking your car and removing your valuables, there's one other thing you can do to make your car less appealing to criminals. Park your vehicle in the garage or if it is parked in front of the house, leave your front light on. It seems as though the majority of the vehicles that are broken into are left unlocked and in poorly lit areas.
